How to see recent Instagram followings
The reliable way to see who someone recently followed is to read their following list twice and look at what changed. LastFollow does that for you: one check a day on a public account, at an hour you choose, and a plain report of the accounts that were added and the ones that went.
Short answer: Open LastFollow, search the public username, tap Track and choose the hour of the daily check. Which list answers your question
Decide first which side you mean: followers are the accounts following the profile, and followings are the accounts the profile follows. Track the matching list, and remember that a change is reported against the previous day’s check rather than against the whole history of the account.

What a recent following actually tells you
A new following is a choice the account holder made, which is what separates it from a new follower. People follow accounts when something changes: a new city, a new job, a new hobby, a person they have just met. Set against the previous day’s list, the accounts that appeared are closer to a diary of attention than a list of contacts, and that is usually the part anyone asking about someone’s activity actually wants.
A batch of follows usually has one cause
Several accounts appearing between two checks is useful context, but the list does not explain why they were followed. It does not establish whether they came from suggestions, a shared location, a friend or somewhere else entirely. Read the change for what it is — an addition on a given day — without treating it as evidence of someone’s motives or relationships.
The information is in the difference
One reading gives the state of that moment and very little else. What carries meaning is the change between two readings: which accounts appeared, which disappeared. That is why the check runs every day and why the first report waits for the second check. It is also the only way unfollows surface at all, since Instagram sends no notification when someone unfollows and keeps no record of it that anybody can query.
What is stored, and where
For a public profile, the snapshot of the list lives on LastFollow’s servers — that is what makes an unattended daily check possible, and it is shared between everyone tracking the same account, so a profile followed by ten people is read once and the result distributed. For a private profile the server keeps only a summary: how many people, when it was read, and how big the last change was. The list of people itself stays on your iPhone, as do your own account’s lists.
Where the limits are
No app can show who viewed a profile, who looked at a post that is not a story, or what a following list contained before anyone started checking it. What is readable is the current state and the changes from there forward. Access is bounded the same way: a private profile opens only to an account that already follows it, with the request accepted rather than pending. Anything promising more is inventing the data or asking for a password.
