Best iOS follower tracker apps for Instagram: what to check before you pick one
By LastFollow, the publisher of one of the apps listed below. This is not an independent review, and we have not tested the other apps. The comparison table repeats what each app's own App Store listing says, as it read on 15 September 2026.
Short answer: first decide whose account you mean. Apps that analyse your own Instagram account need you to sign in to it; apps that follow changes on someone else's public account should not need your login at all. Then check six things in any listing: the login requirement, private accounts, how changes are detected, where the data goes, the pricing model, and the red flags described below. No app can be called best for both jobs.
First, whose account do you mean?
Your own account. These apps tell you who unfollowed you, who does not follow you back and how your posts and stories perform. The lists they analyse belong to your account, so they work through your Instagram sign-in, and most of what they offer depends on it.
Someone else's public account. These apps take a username and report changes to that profile's follower or following list over time. A public list can be read without your login, so the questions that matter are how often it is read and how a change is confirmed.
A few apps do both. Read the listing for which features need a connected account and which need a subscription, because the two are often tied together.
What to check in any follower-tracking app
1. The login requirement
Reading your own lists needs an Instagram sign-in; reading a public account does not. What matters is where the sign-in happens. Instagram's own login screen, opened by the app, is the normal pattern. An app that asks you to type your Instagram password into its own form is a reason to stop, because that password can be stored or reused. Listings often do not say which pattern they use, so look at the screenshots and the privacy policy before you connect anything.
2. Private accounts
A private account's lists are visible only to accounts it has approved. An honest app can read one only through your own session and only when you already follow that account; a pending request is not access. Any listing that suggests it can show a private account you do not follow is describing something Instagram does not allow.
3. How changes are detected
Instagram publishes no follow dates for another profile and no record of unfollows. Every tracker therefore reads the list, keeps a copy, reads it again later and compares the two. Ask how often that reading happens and whether it runs without you opening the app. Ask, too, what the app does when a long list comes back incomplete, since a name missing from a partial reading looks exactly like someone who left. If an app shows another account's list with the newest entries on top, find out what that order is based on, because the date is not something Instagram hands out.
4. Data handling
Find out where the lists are processed and stored: on your phone, on the developer's servers, or both. A check that runs while your phone is in your pocket has to run on a server; a list read through your own session can stay on the device. Read the App Store privacy label and the privacy policy, and check that you can delete your data from inside the app.
5. The pricing model
Almost every app in this category is free to download and charges a subscription for the useful part. Open the In-App Purchases section of the listing before installing: it shows whether plans are weekly, monthly or yearly and whether single features are sold separately. Prices vary by country, so this page does not quote them.
6. Red flags
- A request for your Instagram password in the app's own screen rather than Instagram's login page.
- Promises that you will be told the moment someone follows or unfollows. A follow on another profile is found by reading the list again, so any app is only as fast as the interval between its readings.
- Claims to show who viewed your profile. Instagram does not expose profile visitors to anyone.
- Claims to open private accounts you do not follow.
- Features that follow, unfollow or like on your behalf, which act on your account and not only read it.
- No named publisher, no privacy policy or no support contact.

Reading the table
The first four apps answer “what is happening to my account”. If you want engagement figures, inactive followers or story viewers, that is their job and not LastFollow's. Before you connect one, check where the sign-in happens and what its privacy policy says about your data.
Toxic sits across both groups, with its other-account features behind a subscription and behind a connected Instagram account. Recent Follow and LastFollow both work on someone else's public account without your login; they differ in method. One shows a list with the latest additions on top when you look it up; the other reads the list on a daily schedule and reports the difference between two readings. Ask any app in this group how often it reads the list and what its order or its report is based on.

What LastFollow does, and where it does not fit
These facts come from our own product reference. LastFollow's servers check a public Instagram account once a day at an hour you pick, compare the follower and following lists with the previous check, and report who started following and who left. The first check is a baseline, so the first report arrives the next day. Every name is confirmed with a separate lookup, and a name that cannot be confirmed is not shown. Up to 1,000 people are tracked by name; above that the app tracks the count with a 90-day chart. A private account can be read only on your iPhone, with your own Instagram session on Instagram's login screen, when you already follow it, up to 500 people and with no automatic notification. It never posts, follows or likes. It is free to download, with a paid subscription for tracking.

FAQ
Are any of these apps free?
All seven are free to download. Each listing describes paid subscriptions or in-app purchases for the tracking or analytics features.
Can any app show who viewed my Instagram profile?
No. Instagram does not expose profile visitors to anyone, and a follower list cannot be turned into a visitor list. Any app claiming to show profile viewers is describing something it does not have.
Why does this page not rank the apps?
Because we publish one of them and have not tested the others. A ranking from us would not be worth much. The checklist works on any app, including ours.
How this page was compiled
On 15 September 2026 we searched the US App Store for follower-tracking apps and read each listing's name, publisher, description and in-app purchase section, through Apple's public search service and the listing pages themselves.
