About LastFollow
LastFollow is an iPhone app that tracks a public Instagram account day by day: it checks the account once a day at an hour you choose and reports who started following it and who left. It is published on the App Store as LastFollow: Profile Tracker, and lastfollow.app is its official website.
What the app is for
You search a public Instagram username, tap Track and pick an hour. LastFollow's own servers read that account once a day at that hour, in your device's local time, and compare the new list against the copy stored from the check before. The difference is the answer: who started following, who left. A notification goes out at that hour when something changed, and the app says so when nothing did. No Instagram login is involved for a public account, and you never have to open the app for the check to run.
The result comes from that exact comparison of two checks. Instagram sometimes returns long lists incomplete, so every name the comparison turns up is confirmed with a separate lookup before it is shown, and a name that cannot be confirmed is left out entirely — the app would rather report nothing that day than name the wrong person. Because a comparison needs two points, the first check is only a baseline: the first real report arrives after the check that follows it. The two lists also answer different questions. Followers are accounts that follow the selected profile; followings are accounts that profile follows. A reported change says an account was added or removed between two checks; it does not say why.
How to tell you have the official app

One more thing narrows it further: LastFollow is an iPhone app and has never been a website feature. Nothing on lastfollow.app takes an Instagram username and returns a profile's lists in the browser, because tracking happens inside the app on a schedule you set. A site offering to do this in a browser is doing something else.

Sign-in, permissions and where each list is read
Tracking a public account needs no Instagram sign-in at all: you search the username and tap Track, and the daily check runs on LastFollow's servers. You connect an Instagram account for two things only — seeing your own follower and following lists, and reading a private account you already follow. That sign-in happens on Instagram's own login screen, so the app never sees or stores a password, and the session stays in the device Keychain rather than being sent to LastFollow. A private profile is readable only when your account already follows it and the request has been accepted; a pending request is not enough, and LastFollow never works around those permissions.
Where a list is read decides where it lives. Public tracking runs on LastFollow's servers, which is what makes an unattended daily check possible. A private account's list of people, and your own account's lists, are read on your iPhone with your own Instagram session when you open the app, and are not sent to LastFollow — for a private profile the server keeps only a summary: how many people, when it was read and how large the last change was. That also means private accounts have no automatic daily check and no automatic notification, with a limit of 500 people and one list per profile. Up to 1,000 people a public account is tracked name by name; above that only the daily totals are kept, charted over 90 days. One public and one private account can be tracked at a time. The app is read-only: it does not post, follow, like or message on anyone's behalf, and the profile being tracked receives no notification of any kind.
What no app can do, including this one
LastFollow does not identify profile visitors and does not open a private account your own account cannot reach. History cannot be reconstructed backwards: the record starts at the first check, so nothing can say who followed an account last month if nobody was watching then. And nothing here is instant — it is one check a day, at the hour you set. Where a reading is doubtful, the app reports nothing rather than guess.
